Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy, also known as "Straw Hat Luffy" and commonly as "Straw Hat", is the main protagonist of the manga and anime, One Piece. He is the son of the Revolutionary leader Monkey D. Dragon, the grandson of the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp, the sworn brother of late "Fire Fist" Portgas D. Ace and Revolutionary chief of staff Sabo, and the foster son of Curly Dadan. Luffy is a pirate and his lifelong dream is to become the Pirate King by finding the legendary treasure left behind by the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.

He believes that being Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world. He has eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which gives the consumer's body the properties of rubber. As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member of the crew, as well as one of its top three fighters. Luffy has a worldwide reputation for causing trouble, challenging the Shichibukai, the Marines, and two of the Yonko (Big Mom and Kaido), additionally committing felonies and actions which were deemed threatening by the World Government. Furthermore, in the majority of these confrontations, he emerges as the victor. He has gained a reputation for being "reckless" and, in some cases, "insane", after causing an incident in Enies Lobby, assaulting a World Noble at Sabaody Archipelago, entering and escaping from Impel Down, and joining the Battle of Marineford.

He is, therefore, infamous for being the only known pirate to not only deliberately attack the three most important government facilities, but also escape from all of them alive. The additional fact that he punched a World Noble with full knowledge of the consequences, as well as his heritage, has caused Luffy to be labeled as a "Dangerous Future Element", earning the wrath of Fleet Admiral Sakazuki and Marine Headquarters. These acts, among other things, have given him his current bounty of Beli500,000,000, one of the highest past or present bounties in the series. Having had a bounty of Beli300,000,000 prior to his arrival at the Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy is one of eleven rookie pirates who has been referred to as the "Eleven Supernovas", pirates with bounties over Beli100,000,000 who have reached the Red Line. He is also one of twelve pirates referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas").

Scratchmen Apoo

Scratchmen Apoo, also known as "Roar of the Sea", is an infamous music-themed pirate from the Grand Line and captain of the On Air Pirates. He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas"). After the timeskip, his bounty has been raised from Beli198,000,000 to Beli350,000,000.

Apoo seems to be a passive individual who would not seek to harm others without a good reason. As a result, he is normally defensive during confrontations as seen in his postponed brawl with Eustass Kid at a Sabaody Archipelago bar. Despite this, Apoo can be very ambiguous at times, meaning he cannot deny himself as audience to a good brawl, should the opportunity present itself. When facing an opponent that's too strong for him, he prefers to run away. However he enjoys provoking and taunting his enemies before leaving. He also proved to be quite perceptive, since he claimed to have sensed an immense murderous intent momentarily emitted by Roronoa Zoro, shortly before Zoro attempted to attack the World Noble Saint Charloss after the latter attempted to shoot the former. He hates it when someone tells him the obvious, such as when a crew member stated that the crew was running in the air, while they were running away from a pack of savage boars in the New World. After the timeskip, Apoo seems to have become very cautious, believing that when summoned by an enemy he should be ready to fight, and when Killer invited him to discuss the possibility of an alliance, Apoo believed Kid to be hiding a sniper, which resulted the On Air Pirates captain to wreak havoc on Kid's base and attacking one of his crew members.

Scratchmen Apoo is a martial artist of sorts. His fighting stance generally consists of him waving his hands in front of him like a DJ. Not much is currently known about his abilities, as he has not demonstrated any fighting skill to the extent of the other Supernovas, save for his brief brawl with Eustass Kid, where the two caused a building to tumble down and his attack on Admiral Kizaru. Apoo displayed acrobatic jumping skills on both occasions. Apoo appears to have a Devil Fruit connected with music. This ability, which he refers to as Tatakau Music (戦う音楽 (たたかうミュージック) Tatakau Myūjikku?, literally meaning "Fighting Music"), allows him to transform his body into various musical instruments (such as piano keys on his teeth or turning his arm into a saxophone) which he can play. By playing specific notes and tunes, he can release music that causes damaging effects to his opponents, the type of damage being determined by what he plays, and seems to have hypnotic effects. Apoo can turn into instruments in seconds.

"Massacre Soldier" Killer

"Massacre Soldier" Killer is a pirate and subordinate of Eustass Kid. He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas"). After the timeskip, his bounty has been raised from Beli162,000,000 to Beli200,000,000.

Like the rest of Kid's crew, Killer comes across as both mildly arrogant and level-headed; in the latter case, probably more so than their captain. Of course, this does not mean he is not as enticed toward violence as anybody else on the crew. He also remains fairly silent during combat, save for the slicing of his blades, and tends to focus on the elimination of his enemies. Killer is more knowledgeable than his captain in terms of historical facts, as shown when he informed Kid the meaning of the Ox Bell. After the timeskip, Killer has been shown to be much calmer than his captain, advising him to be polite when meeting with his fellow Supernovas, and was then able to prevent a fight between him and Scratchmen Apoo from escalating while reminding them of the purpose of their meeting. He also seems to be more reasonable than his captain, which is in contrast to his name, as he tried to reason things out rather than immediately trying to start a fight.

Killer is a fearsome pirate and combatant. His skills have earned him a bounty of Beli200,000,000 which is considered to be very impressive for a rookie, even within the Grand Line. Like his captain, he was able to resist Silvers Rayleigh's burst of Haki. Killer's style of fighting seems to rely mainly on agility and speed, which he uses to overpower his opponent before they can strike him, or to dodge attacks. He was capable of fighting head on with the fellow Supernova Urouge, though the latter had not increased his muscle mass. Killer is seen using a pair of scythe-bladed weapons attached to his armbands that are capable of spinning around or being used as hand scythes. These weapons can also be used to block other weapons, leaving the foe open for Killer to kick the enemy's flank or other exposed areas. This, combined with the agility he has so far displayed in combat and the notion that he is not afraid to kill, makes him a formidable foe.

Capone "Gang" Bege

Capone "Gang" Bege is a mafia don-like pirate who hails from West Blue. He is the captain of the Fire Tank Pirates and also one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation". He is also one of the heads of the Five Families of the West of the West Blue. During the timeskip, he was arranged to marry Charlotte Chiffon, and the two have a son named Capone Pez; as a result, he and his crew are working under the Big Mom Pirates where he holds a position of a "rook" combatant. Sometime during the timeskip, his bounty increased from Beli138,000,000 to Beli300,000,000. Due to his allegiance and actions, he is the secondary antagonist of the Zou Arc.

As captain of his crew and leader of one of the Five Families of the West, Bege has authority over all those under him. He also had great influence and power over the Underworld operations in the West Blue. As a rook combatant within the Big Mom Pirates, he was given the responsibility of being in charge of the Tea Party's security. Bege is a masterful strategist who uses tactics and trickery, rather than direct physical force in battle. He is a deceptive master of bluffing, as he was able to easily coerce Caesar Clown, a highly crafty and manipulative expert liar in his own right, into surrendering himself with effective death threats. Even before he became a pirate, Bege was able to eliminate all his rival mafias from their leaders to their vengeful subordinates with tactical ingenuity. His main strategy is to use his Devil Fruit abilities to launch ambushes and surprise attacks, which allowed him to swiftly defeat an unsuspecting Pekoms.

Bege ate the Shiro Shiro no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit which allows him to maintain a fortress inside his body. He can house a massive force of subordinates within his body, as well as horses and cannons. He manifests these objects outside his body by first manifesting ports and drawbridges on his person through which his "troops" could come out. His insides also appear to that of a literal fortress, featuring stone brick rooms as well as drawbridges that can open and close, again putting into question whether Bege creates them at will or that his body truly does function like a fortress and has people run around his body at all times. When the objects and people within him reach a certain distance away from his body, shown by a pinkish layer of an unknown aura centered on Bege's location, they revert to full size as well as their real speed, resulting in large cannon volleys and cavalry seemingly popping out of nowhere from one man. Bege's internal body contains several cannons which his subordinates can use in order to fire at nearby targets outside their captain's fortress body. Bege has a spear made of Seastone which he had one of his subordinates use in order to restrain Caesar Clown. When Bege shot Pekoms on Whole Cake Island, he wielded a flintlock.

Trafalgar D. Water Law

Trafalgar D. Water Law, more commonly known as just Trafalgar Law (トラファルガー・ロー Torafarugā Rō?) and by his epithet as the "Surgeon of Death", is the captain and doctor of the Heart Pirates, a pirate crew from North Blue. On top of being one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas"), he became one of the Shichibukai during the timeskip, but his position was revoked for allying with the Straw Hat Pirates and bringing down Donquixote Doflamingo. Law, like many other pirates, dreams of finding the One Piece. During the timeskip, his bounty increased from Beli200,000,000 to Beli440,000,000, before it was frozen. After he was expelled from the Shichibukai, Law's bounty was raised to Beli500,000,000.

Law is a slim man of a relatively tall height. He has faint shadows right under his yellow eyes (grey in the anime), and his mouth is usually seen in a smile. He has dark hair, a majority of which is obscured, save for his sideburns and small goatee by the northern-style fur hat that Law wears, which is white and has spots on the bottom and along the rim. His hair color is depicted as black in both the anime and manga, though sometimes the manga depicts it as blue. He is seen wearing a black-sleeved and hooded yellow hoodie with his Jolly Roger out on the front of his chest and the sleeves rolled up. Law also sports a pair of jeans with odd markings on both the knee and ankle areas, similar to the ones on his hat, but darker in color, and a pair of dark, pointed shoes. He has a pair of small earrings on each ear. He has many tribal-style tattoos on his arms; on both of his hands, are letters spelled as D E A T H tattooed in black on each of the back of his fingers. Originally in the manga, his left thumb was not tattooed, with the letter A missing. Later on, all of his fingers were tattooed complete with all five letters. He also has a black cross on the back of both of his hands.

On his chest, he has a tribal-style heart tattoo with his Jolly Roger on it. He has simpler heart tattoo on his shoulders and his Jolly Roger tattooed on his back. As a child, Law had his fur hat and his faint shadows right under his eyes, but wore the uniform for the medical academy he was attending: a blue lab coat with a red tie, dark blue shorts and green shoes; he was holding a scalpel on his right hand and a frog on his left hand, since he was already in training to become a surgeon, with his father being his teacher. After escaping Flevance, Law lost his tie and lab coat, and his shirt underneath became more raggedly, and his shorts have white spots on them. Because of his heritage, he inherited the Amber Lead Syndrome that accumulated throughout the generations of Flevance, which left his skin white and pallid until he obtained his cure. In Oda's depiction of the Supernova post-timeskip, he seems to have lost the fur rim of his hat and replaced it with a thick bill, turning it into a rather spherical hat resembling a Wool Skipper. His goatee has become somewhat scruffier, and his right hand now also has the fingers tattooed. He now wears a yellow t-shirt similar in appearance to his old hoodie, with a black jacket over the shirt. On Punk Hazard, Law wears a long black coat with his crew's jolly roger along the hem and on the sleeve. On Dressrosa, he wears a black coat with a hood which features the word Corazon on the back. During his second confrontation with Doflamingo, Law's right arm was cut off. It is later reattached by Leo and healed by Mansherry. During the Zou Arc, Law changed into a dark, short-sleeved shirt with a light-colored heart pattern on the lower left side. He also bears stitch marks on his right arm after it being reattached by Leo.

Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro, also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro, is a pirate and a former bounty hunter. He was the first member to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and, to date, is considered the largest threat and most dangerous member in the crew after Luffy. His fame as a master swordsman and his great strength, along with the actions of his captain, sometimes led others to believe he was the true captain of the crew. He is one of the top three fighters in the crew alongside Luffy and Sanji, and his dream is to become the greatest swordsman in the world. Zoro is regarded as one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas").

Zoro is a muscular young man with lightly tanned skin. He always carries his three swords along with him, bundled up with a green haramaki over his right hip, allowing him to easily draw them with his left hand. Of the three swords he has on his person, he has always been seen carrying the Wado Ichimonji, while his other two swords have varied over time due to them being destroyed and subsequently replaced with progressively better ones. Although his right hand is usually seen resting over them, he can also use this hand to pull his swords out before sitting down.

He has three identical gold earrings on his left earlobe. Zoro normally keeps a black bandanna tied around his left bicep and ties it around his head when he is fighting seriously against an opponent. Zoro's body is covered with scars from his many battles, most notably the massive scar stretching from his left shoulder to his right hip that he acquired during his loss against the world's greatest swordsman, Dracule Mihawk, at Baratie. His other visible scars are the scars he inflicted upon his ankles in a desperate attempt to free himself from Mr. 3's Giant Candle Service Set by trying to cut his feet off at Little Garden. After the timeskip, he gained another scar over his left eye, obtained through unknown means. Zoro's other remarkable feature is his cropped green hair, which Sanji often teases him about by calling him "marimo" (moss-ball, moss-head in the Viz Manga and FUNimation dub) due to its resemblance to one.

Eustass "Captain" Kid

Eustass "Captain" Kid is a notorious pirate from South Blue and the captain of the Kid Pirates. He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas"). One of the reasons his bounty was higher than Luffy's when they arrived at the Archipelago was a result of him and his crew causing huge numbers of civilian casualties in the course of their activities. Sometime during the timeskip, his bounty was raised from Beli315,000,000 to Beli470,000,000.

As the captain of the Kid Pirates, Eustass Kid has complete authority over the crew. During the timeskip the Kid Pirates continued to rise in infamy, as evidenced by Kid and Killer's bounties increasing, and their willingness to attack Big Mom's ships. Prior to the timeskip Kid and his crew were known for dealing major destruction and civilian casualties along their route through the Grand Line and towards the New World. Kid is a fearsome pirate who, along with the rest of his crew, showed flawless resistance to the Haki pulse emitted by Silvers Rayleigh at the Human Auctioning House and effortlessly defeated a large group of marines alongside Luffy and Law. He along with his crew also managed to escape from Admiral Kizaru's attack. After the timeskip, he seems to have become much more bold, if not more powerful, as he destroyed two ships belonging to Big Mom's allies despite her being a Yonko. His bounty also rose to Beli 470,000,000. Kid also appears well connected, as he is aware of dealings within the underworld.

Kid possesses a Devil Fruit power connected to magnetism. This manifests in two different abilities, both depicting repulsion and attraction of metals within his vicinity to be used as weapons. The first allows him to repel metallic objects away from himself, such as reflecting a Marine cannonball back towards its shooter. The second ability allows him to draw metallic objects towards him and form them into objects, his most frequent use of this being to form a giant arm made of hundreds of metallic weapons and objects and connecting it to his right hand. When forming this metallic arm, he can use it to punch his opponents, or as a makeshift shield to block even a Pacifista's laser beams. It is unknown if the firearms connected to his metal arm can fire at his will or not. In the anime and Unlimited Cruise game, Kid can also launch compressed bullets of scrap metal at his opponent at high speed. When using his Devil Fruit ability, purple electrical sparks emit from his hands, so his ability may resemble an electromagnet. The main weakness of the fruit seems to be its dependence from the surrounding environment, which must contain metal in order for the fruit's powers to be used (though this weakness has yet to be exploited). Other than that, it is also weak against the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses. He carries around a flintlock pistol and a dagger, and while he was on the verge of unsheathing the latter in various occasions, he never actually used it in combat, so his skills with both the weapons are as of yet unknown. Sometime during the timeskip his left arm was replaced with a mechanical one, making him a partial cyborg, however whatever capabilities that his new arm now grant him are currently unknown. But he may be able to combine his Devil Fruit abilities with his mechanical arm.

Jewelry Bonney

Jewelry Bonney, also known as the "Big Eater", is the captain of the Bonney Pirates and a South Blue native. She is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation". Bonney is a slim woman (despite the enormous amount of food she consumes regularly), with long pink hair and brown eyes (purple in the anime). She can also appear as a small child due to her Devil Fruit ability: In this form, she has similar, although obviously more childish, facial features, and is not as tall nor as buxom as in her adult form.

Her outfit consists of a white low-cut tank top that exposes both her midriff and cleavage, along with a pair of orange-and-black striped buckled shorts with long, thin suspenders. She also wears black high-heeled boots which reach up to her calves, with large laces coming from the openings, and a pair of hot pink and dark red stockings with a yellow sun-like motif on them (a pattern seen other times in the One Piece world). The hat she wears is a green Furażerka with a light-green lining. She has an anti-eyebrow below her right eye, bright red lipstick on her lips, and is sometimes seen wearing a brown furred jacket. In an SBS section, Oda drew the Supernovas as children. Bonney is shown with shoulder-length hair as opposed to her current back-length hair and a rounder face. Her clothes and face are somewhat dirty showing that since childhood she had a huge appetite. In Oda's depiction of the Supernovas post-timeskip, Bonney is shown wearing a black hat (possibly a sunhat similar to Usopp's, judging by the rim) with a brown furred coat or cloak. She also uses pink lipstick as opposed to the red one before the timeskip.

Bonney, for some unexplained reason, seems to be able to consume large amounts of food without any adverse effects on her body. No matter how much she eats, she is somehow able to metabolize all the food she ate without becoming full or even remotely fat, quite possibly due to her Devil Fruit powers giving her the metabolism of a child. Bonney has shown little in the way of physical abilities. She was shown to be quite fast however, as she managed to tackle Zoro before he was able to attack Saint Charloss. She and her crew were overpowered and captured by the Blackbeard Pirates, though she did manage to injure Marshall D. Teach by kicking him in the head. Bonney exhibits unexplained abilities that appear to come from a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that involves age manipulation. She can alter the ages of herself and others, rapidly aging her intended targets into their senior years or regressing them into small children.[6] As a result of this ability, accurately determining her true age is difficult.[2] If her power stems from a Devil Fruit, it is rare in that it does not affect the clothing of those she uses it on, though it is natural as clothes do not change in size even as they age. Bonney apparently wears skimpy clothing and suspenders so that her clothes will fit when she becomes a child, while a group of Marines affected by it became too small for their own clothing once aged down to children. She may need her hands to use her power, as Blackbeard kept her in line simply by chaining her hands to a post, though it is also possible that the chains were lined with seastone, preventing her from accessing her powers. In the anime, one of these transformations is heard, yet not seen, implying that her powers work through a process, rather than in a flash. She also briefly speaks a line in her adult voice while in child form after saving Saint Charloss from Zoro.

X Drake

X Drake (read as "Diez Drake") is a former Marine rear admiral from North Blue who has become a pirate under the epithet of "Red Flag", captaining the Drake Pirates. He is one of twelve pirates referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly as the "Eleven Supernovas"), and prior to the two-year timeskip had a bounty of Beli222,000,000. Currently, he and his crew are affiliated with the Beasts Pirates, the pirate crew led by Kaido, one of the Yonko. Drake is the son of the Marine-turned-pirate Diez Barrels, and as a young adult was called Dory (ドリィ Dorii?). He was physically abused by his father, and when the Donquixote Pirates invaded Barrels' hideout 13 years ago, he abandoned Barrels' crew as they were trapped and massacred.

When he was a member of the Barrels Pirates thirteen years ago, it was said he was the strongest member of the crew. As a former high ranking Marine, Drake has a deep understanding of the workings of the World Government, and is able to use this knowledge to protect himself from danger and predict the movements of the Marines. He is also aware of the Pacifista and Vegapunk. His considerable knowledge may have contributed to his enormous bounty. He is also quite intelligent, interrupting Killer and Urouge's battle because he knew that it would only draw more unwanted attention. He is skilled enough that he was capable of interrupting the fight of two other Supernovas with just one move, and has demonstrated physical strength to the degree where he was able to knock aside a "copy" of the Shichibukai, Bartholomew Kuma. This is an amazing feat as both Bepo and Sanji nearly injured themselves when they kicked one of the Pacifistas. Despite the fact he was invoking the wrath of Kaido by attacking Scotch and his favorite island, he was able to live through the experience and made a greater name for himself.

X Drake wields a sword which looks like a rapier and was seen using it with a four bladed axe. He has been seen to have the sword in his left hand and the axe in his right. He possesses what is referred to as a "rare, Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit", giving Drake the ability to transform into a theropoda dinosaur. In this form he is large and powerful enough to directly wound one of the Pacifista troops by biting it in the head, something that is quite difficult due to the cyborg's heavy armor. It is also mentioned that the more carnivorous a Zoan fruit is, the fiercer the combat abilities gained from eating it, which suggests that Drake's Devil Fruit makes him a strong and formidable opponent. However, he was still vulnerable to the Pacifista's lasers. It also seems like Drake cannot (or simply does not want to) talk while in his full dinosaur form, as he only emitted screeching dinosaur noises while in this form. In One Piece: Gigant Battle! 2 New World, he is capable of transforming his human body parts into their dinosaur form's equivalent, such as hands into claws. Drake has shown that he is capable of using Busoshoku Haki when he easily defeated Caribou, a Logia user.

Urouge

Urouge, also known as Mad Monk, is a pirate who hails from a sky island and is the captain of the Fallen Monk Pirates. He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation" (formerly known as the "Eleven Supernovas").

Urouge is abundant in both height and width. His face somewhat resembles a smiling totem mask as he is nearly always seen grinning, even when he is unhappy; the only moments he is not seen smiling was when he was approaching Raijin Island, when he was confounded by the island spewing lightning nonstop, and again when he gives final benedictions to Kaido's jumping off a sky island. Apart from his smile, he also has what appears to be a stitched-up scar vertically descending over, and falling short just above his left eye.

On his chin he has a prominent, jet-black, and scruffy beard that extends upwards to the sides of his jaw and then converges with his equally-dark side-burns. He seems to sport the short and clean-cut sort of hairstyle generally sported by monks. He also has black tattoos going down his shoulders that somewhat resemble fire. He dresses in similar robes to Divine Soldiers underneath the khaki robes he wears (which is also worn by the rest of his crew), which includes the white full-bodied garment with severed sleeves, that exposes tattoos patterned like flames on both biceps. He wears a pair of gold earrings, black gloves and a rather large red bead necklace. He also has a pair of large wings growing out from the middle of his back. As a child, Urouge had the hairstyle and wings of the Skypieans', but as an adult his wings are more like the Birka natives.

Karma Akabane

Karma akabane is a student in korosensei's class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school who had been suspended from school due to his violent behavior. He is also one of nagisa's closest friends. Karma has pale skin, short red hair, and pale sharp eyes that appear as either mercury or gold in color. Behind his usual innocent-looking smiling face hides a torturous and rather sadistic personality. He has a slender build and has also been shown to have exceptionally sharp canine teeth.

Among all the class 3-e students, he is the only one to wear a black blazer as opposed to the standard school-issue. In the anime, karma is considered to be the most physically attractive out of all the guys in class e by the girls. Seven years after graduation, karma has grown considerably taller and has swept-back hair. Karma had for a long time been a rebellious student with a problematic attitude. However, due to his good grades, his homeroom teacher had supported him and proclaimed that "As long as you are in the right, sensei will be on your side". One day he had found a senior from class e being bullied and had jumped to his rescue, severely injuring the main building's 3rd year in the process. Convinced that he was still in the 'right', he was shocked when his homeroom teacher told him that he was in the 'wrong'. The teacher then further elaborated that he had no right to protect a worthless piece of trash from class e and instead injured a fellow student with a bright future. The teacher then told him that starting his 3rd year he would be dropped to class e.

This caused the teacher's worth to 'die' in karma's eyes, also causing karma to stop caring about teachers in general and instead focused on doing what he wanted. In his first two years at kunigigaoka, karma had been friends with fellow classmate nagisa shiota. He first approached nagisa when he saw the latter reading an article about karma's favourite film director adapting a comic book, and invited nagisa to watch with him. For a short time the two hung out together, with karma being able to be less guarded with nagisa. One day at a fast food outlet though, karma was poked from behind by nagisa in trying to find him but felt as though he had been viciously stabbed with a sword. Karma sensed a mysterious but sinister feeling from nagisa, but as he realized that he does not know how to deal with this (having being used to beating his problems with his fists). As a result karma distanced himself from nagisa. By the time of his suspension, their relationship reverted back to being just classmates. Marksmanship: karma is ranked 3rd for marksmanship, boys' side (fourth in the class). Intelligence: karma is one of the smartest characters in the series, being capable of maintaining top grades with little effort. He assets his wit and guile to assassinations as well as other scenarios that may require it and is often the first person to notice any oddities that may occur around and within class e. Leadership: karma is capable of utilizing and leading his classmates, making use of their abilities in the most suitable way. He demonstrates this ability in bits and pieces throughout the series (e.G. Subduing itona at the natural pool), but only fully begin to demonstrate this in chapter 145, where he guided each of his teammates to positions best befitting them. Combat skills: besides his intelligence, karma also a knack for battle and enjoys it. He also has good physical abilities like mobility, fighting skills, and a good mind for pranks and foul play. He was also stated by kimura that no one could compare to karma at direct hand to hand combat. He is also the physically strongest student in class e as he has no trouble subduing terasaka who has the most muscular build in the class and it took both maehara and isogai struggling to physically restrain him before he could have injured nagisa. He is capable of fighting toe-to-toe with a full-fledged assassin (e.G. Grip), and his reflexes allow him to pinch down an enemy's attacks.

Tōka Yada

Tōka yada is a student in korosensei's class 3-e in kunugigaoka junior high school. Yada has dark brown hair (mid-brown in the anime) held up in a ponytail and presumably dark brown eyes (light purple in the anime). She also has the largest bust out of all the female students in class e.

She is the big sister of class 3-e and one of the most enthusiastic students about learning the art of infiltration from irina. She's been described as being adult-like and cool to the point that kayano admits that she's attracted to her despite her huge bust.

Knifework: she has the third best knifework on the girls side, along with hinano kurahashi and rinka hayami. Infiltration: as one of the more enthusiastic students in terms of irina's lessons, yada has gained notable skill in grifting as shown in chapter 66, when she successfully drove away two guys by pretending to be a mafia princess. Negotiation: thanks to irina's lessons, yada has become a skilled negotiator, and she's usually relied on by the class for the task.

Aguri Yukimura

Aguri yukimura is the former teacher of class 3-e and the late older sister of akari yukimura. Aguri has short black hair with bangs that go past her eyes, framing her face. She has a large bust as it was shown when her sister felt some jealousy of her genes. Aguri is known for her unusual fashion sense as it was noted by the original god of death and many other people including her students from class 3-e.

Aguri is shown to be cheerful, clear-minded, and passionate when it comes to teaching. As a teacher of class 3-e she is quite intelligent, being able to teach any subject in spite of chemistry being her first preference. She is also hard-working, having been essentially forced to work as a lab assistant to her abusive fiancé during night hours. Aguri is also very perceptive. When the original god of death wondered why his apprentice betrayed him, aguri replied that his apprentice might have wanted his master to "See him", a perception later proved to be tragically prophetic. She is known for her odd sense of fashion which often leaves others dumbfounded. Despite that she is remembered very highly by those who knew her and continues to make an impact in their lives.

Shiro

Shiro (real name kotarō yanagisawa) is a mysterious man and former caretaker of itona horibe. He is a recurring antagonist to class 3-e in the first half of the series, but later serves as the final antagonist. Shiro wears white robes and a mask over his face, all made from anti-sensei fibers. His actual appearance was unknown until he removed his mask in chapter 133, he is revealed to have short, wavy black hair and light eyes with his left eye being a prosthetic eye.

This chapter also revealed that he used voice changing technology to hide his identity from korosensei. During his first appearance, he seems funny and easygoing, and although he retains this attitude while he and itona attack korosensei, it soon becomes clear that he is conniving, manipulative, and ruthless in his ambitions.

Furthermore, he sees practically everyone other than himself as disposable. In his past as a researcher, he was revealed to be quite umempathetic; he was willing to use human guinea pigs for his research and took out his anger on his coworkers and subordinates, including his fiancee aguri yukimura, for getting in the way of his research. Because of his personality, koro-sensei exploited it twice for his advantage before he was completely defeated as he was abandoned by many country leaders after his defeat in the final battle between yanagisawa, god of death and koro-sensei.

Tomohito Sugino

Tomohito sugino is a student in korosensei's class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school and one of nagisa's best friends. Sugino has the generic short, spiked black hair for male shōnen characters and dark blue eyes. Out of all of the males in his class, he has the most normal design.

Sugino is an energetic boy with a love for baseball. He's a very happy and friendly person and gets along with his classmates well. Before he was transferred to class-e, sugino was a member of the school's baseball club. However, due to his relatively slow pitches frequently getting batted, he was removed from the regular line up of his club. Because he was moved down, he had no motivation to study and thus got moved to class-e.

Knifework: sugino is the third best for knifework on the boys' side (and class 3-e as a whole). Baseball: sugino admitted that he has a slow pitch and compared to professional baseball pitcher arita, his muscle configuration isn't so good. However, he has a very malleable wrist and elbow which allows him to change a ball's speed with various pitches. He uses this ability in combat by throwing rocks against craig houjou, in part of the class's hit-and-run tactics against the 'divine soldier'.

Itona Horibe

Itona horibe is the second assassin transfer student to arrive at class 3-e, following the previous assassin, ritsu. In his initial appearances, he didn't attend classes, but did reappear in a few chapters throughout the series until ultimately joining class e for good.

Itona has short, spiked platinum blond hair (light blue-tinted white in the anime) which as of chapter 87 he now wears a large bandanna over and sharp light blue eyes (yellow in the anime). He is short, but quite muscular.

Mechanics and engineering: itona has knack for gadgets and tinkering due to learning the basics of mechanical and technical engineering from his father's company. He often puts his skills to good use with not just assassinations, but also in spying and reconnaissance when needed. He is often tasked with using custom-made rc vehicles that he constructs for reconnaissance. Intelligence: itona was revealed to have a high level of intelligence that was hindered and couldn't be used due to his tentacles. Other skills: itona has incredible physical abilities that he possibly retained from his modification with shiro. This was shown during the climax of the athletic festival arc when he performed a six foot jump into the air after being catapulted by isogai (the average vertical jump for a 14-15 year old male is about 17 inches) and brought class a's pole to the ground.

Yukiko Kanzaki

Yukiko kanzaki is a student in class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school, taught by korosensei. Kanzaki is a graceful and refined girl who's also very diligent and reliable. She's kind and calm with an elegant demeanor, but at the same time has a lot of backbone and isn't afraid to stand up for herself and will retain her usual smile while doing so. She also shows she does have a rebellious side due to the expectations her father had of her and she is good at arcade games.

Her classmates mention she has bad luck with men, as she usually and unintentionally attracts men with her beauty and her seemingly passive personality, as shown in episodes 7 and 15. Marksmanship: yukiko is ranked 5th for the girls' side in marksmanship who is said to specialize in short-range weaponry. She scores 73/200 for this in june. Japanese literature: yukiko has a mastery over this subject and currently holds the second place spot for japanese literature in kunugigaoka.

Other skills: because she ignored her studies and went to arcades often, yukiko has become highly skilled at games, most notably danmaku and possibly dance dance revolution. Her mastery in online shooters (on a virtual battlefield) would become the basis of her assassination techniques, in particular striking at the enemy's strategic position by flanking from the side.

Manami Okuda

Manami okuda is a student in class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school, taught by korosensei.

Manami has black hair, styled into twin braids that reach just below her shoulder and brown eyes (lavender in the anime). She wears glasses and has a more petite frame than most of the girls in class 3-e. Seven years after graduating class 3-e, her hair is styled into a single braid, which rested over her left shoulder, instead of her usual twin braids.

Poison making/chemistry: despite the fact that she states that she isn't really good with surprise attacks and expressing things in language, okuda excels in chemistry and mathematics and is very capable of making even the most deadliest of poisons for various situations. Science: okuda has a talent with this subject and after learning to incorporate literature into it, she has become even better at it. This has proven useful as she is later able to decipher the complex technical jargon and translate it for the rest of the class to understand. She's also ranked first in the school for the subject.

Nagisa Shiota

Nagisa shiota is a student in korosensei's class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school and the protagonist and main narrator of assassination classroom. He is also the one who ultimately assassinated korosensei. Seven years later, he becomes the adviser of paradise high school class 3-5. Assassination: nagisa's physical abilities are mediocre, and it worthy to note that he is one of the weakest amongst the boys. If a comparison were to be made, nagisa's constitution and strength are more easily comparable to a female of his age. However, nagisa has an extraordinary amount of natural talent as an assassin as shown in his duels against takaoka. This inclination has also been made apparent numerous times during the span of the story.

He is described by korosensei to be a 'pure assassin'. Several other characters such as karma and maehara have noted that he is full of surprises - one can never know when or where nagisa will aim to strike. His talent in the art of assassination has garnered respect from even those who are not his peers, and there are times when others have commented on the potential nagisa possessed that could be fulfilled in the role of a professional hitman. In the end, though, nagisa does not pursue this path and decides to use his abilities to help others in the same way korosensei did. Bloodlust:nagisa possesses a frighteningly massive amount of hidden bloodlust despite his initial character, impression and appearance which can affect his opponents in varying ways; the most significant, powerful reaction involve immobilization and an inability to counterattack or to fight back, and this type of reaction affects even trained, jaded assassins. This is made very clearly evident for the first time during his mock assassination with takaoka, and another early event is the incident when two of nagisa's old classmates threatened him. This unique talent has sparked the interest of all three of class e's main faculty. When nagisa's bloodlust is released or directed at someone, it is metaphorically represented as a large, blood-soaked snake coiled around nagisa's target with its fangs bared and ready to strike at any moment. In later chapters, his bloodlust takes the form of a flaming aura around him in a way that either mimics or reflects that of the god of death. However, if nagisa were to lose control of his bloodlust due to emotional provocation, his inability to rein his bloodlust back under control is indicated in his eyes, which are illustrated as dull. Nagisa can grow reckless or lack foresight during combat while focusing on his target, and opponents with bloodlust that exceeds nagisa's own are not affected in the slightest.

People reading/discernment: nagisa developed the ability to read people's expressions and intentions with ease as a result of his past experience with his mother, hiromi shiota. There are occasions when he can detect if a person is lying or not being entirely truthful (e.G. Terasaka when he is plotting with shiro). After being placed on the receivingend of the god of death's improved clap stunner, this ability somehow later evolves into a sort of advanced ability that allows nagisa to analyze a person's state of mind simply by looking at them. This is illustrated and/or described as "Wavelengths" or "Wavelengths of consciousness" of people that represents their breathing, line of sight, facial expression, body language and more. This ability allows nagisa to find a person's "Gap in consciousness" or, in other words, openings where they let their guard down as well as their "Peak in consciousness", which is the state of mind I which a person is highly susceptible to outside stimuli such as the clap stunner, which he has made effective use of in different ways, from stunning enemies before attacking them to simple, almost trivial things such as being able to remove a size label from clothing without the person wearing it noticing. Marksmanship: in june, nagisa scored 84/200 in marksmanship, making him the fifth best among the boys and seventh overall amongst his class. Kiss of death: nagisa has shown some level of skill when using irina's "Kiss of death" technique, able to acquire 15 "Hits" off of kaede. Supposedly, unlike the others in his class, nagisa is quite excellent with a lot of potential for improvement in this particular skill. Irina has remarked that nagisa's training in indiscriminate french kisses have bestowed on him remarkable enough skill to exceed his classmates by a large margin. Such margins are represented numerically, as nagisa is supposedly capable of registering a total of 40 "Hits" if he were to place more effort into his kiss.

Irina Jelavić

Irina jelavić is the english teacher of class 3-e of kunugigaoka junior high school and a professional hitwoman hired by the government to assassinate korosensei. She is of serbian descent.

Irina is a tall, beautiful young woman. She has long blonde hair, big blue eyes, and fair skin. With an ample bust and a curvy physique, she has a very seductive body that she utilize to seduce and manipulate her assassination targets in order to achieve her goal. Irina is usually seen in high brands and fashionable clothing which emphasizes her flattering form. This often causes karasuma to reprimand her for wearing "Inappropriate" clothing for a teacher. After the events of the god of death arc, she switches to a much more conservative apparel, which consists in a turtleneck sweater and a long black skirt. Despite her life experiences and mature appearance she's revealed to be only 20 years old, much to the surprise of her students.

Infiltration: as an infiltration assassin, irina is considered second to none. She is able to charm her way into her target's inner circles, penetrating the highest security and killing them when they're alone at point-blank range with little difficulty. Irina is seen to be able to adopt different personalities in order to infiltrate into the various situations her missions put her through. Planning: after her seduction techniques, this is considered to be one of her greatest talents. She elaborates detailed plans completely on her own, with backups for any complication that might arise, thus giving her target no chance of survival. Linguistics: irina is extremely skilled in conversational abilities, being fluent in 10 different languages. Through these skills combined with her infiltration abilities, irina is able to extract information from her targets. Martial arts competence/weaponry master: being an assassin, irina shows considerable expertise with handling weapons such as firearms and melee weapons. She's also shown her abilities with setting up complex trigger traps when attempting to kill korosensei. She is shown to be skilled in martial arts but since she's an assassin and not a combatant, she's severely under-skilled when compared to more prominent fighters in the series, such as karasuma. Other abilities: irina has been shown to be able to play the piano at a concert-performer level with ease while still being able to draw people's attention through minuscule body movements. She is also an expert negotiator.

Vato falman

Vato falman (vatō faruman) is an amestrian soldier initially stationed at the east area headquarters in east city and one of colonel roy mustang's most trusted subordinates, handpicked by the flame alchemist for his outstanding abilities and qualities. Falman is an intelligence expert with a remarkable memory capable of recalling even the most minute details of any location, situation or person.

In addition to being an honest and hardworking soldier, mustang recruited him as a sort of walking recording device, able to store information without leaving any physical evidence. Because his intellect is his area of expertise, he does not have much experience in the field, causing him to make rookie mistakes when in a combat situation. He is overly formal and responds to simple or offhand questions with an encyclopedic response, causing some of his comrades to wish he would lighten up. Falman plays little more than a supporting role, providing comic relief and backup alongside his comrades jean havoc, heymans breda and kain fuery. He first appears during the bald hostage incident aboard general hakuro's train in episode 5 and acts as backup while edward and alphonse elric retake the engine room from bald and his fellow hijackers. It seems that falman is not quite as trusted by mustang, as he has to request to be included in the group transfer to central city while havoc, hawkeye, breda and fuery were chosen without their input. Once there, he is charged with keeping tabs on mustang's doings by the central command.

Jean havoc

Second lieutenant jean havoc (jan habokku) is one of colonel mustang's most trustworthy subordinates at the eastern headquarters and one of the few privy to the colonel's goal of becoming führer. A self-proclaimed 'country boy', havoc is usually rather laid-back and almost never seen without a cigarette in his mouth, but is an honest, loyal and hard-working soldier who leads his own subordinates by example. Although not the most intelligent, havoc more than makes up for his simplicity with common sense and cleverness - often providing a sarcastic, real-world perspective to counter the over-the-top antics of his comrades - as well as a particularly high combat aptitude. But the fair-haired son of eastern amestrian shopkeepers does have a noteworthy weakness: throughout the series havoc's poor luck keeping a girlfriend plays a recurring theme, as shown when he is forced to leave a new relationship in east city when being transferred to central with mustang and when he is spurned by major alex louis armstrong's younger sister catherine elle. In the manga, however, havoc plays a more significant role in the story, beginning in volume 9 with the barry the chopper mission to lure out the homunculi. In chapter 34, while warrant officer falman is charged with standing guard over barry, havoc visits their safe house in the slums, bringing additional weapons and provisions for falman to use.

He mentions to the two that he has finally found a new girlfriend in central city named "Solaris", but she is revealed to be lust posing as a human in order to gather information from him regarding colonel mustang's activities. Fortunately, havoc reveals nothing vital or confidential about his work to her. During the plan to extradite 2nd lieutenant maria ross to xerxes, havoc acts on the scene, providing roy with the false corpse and ross' prison tags from inside a secret tunnel located behind a dumpster. Havoc then ushers ross away through the same tunnel to rendezvous with breda and fu, mentioning that edward elric's arrival was an unforeseen hitch in the plan, but that the colonel would work something out. Immediately after ross' safe passage out of the country, havoc is assigned (under the codename "Jacqueline") to covertly survey falman's safe house. He works with the support of lt. Hawkeye and master sergeant kain fuery in order to respond when the members of the ouroboros make their move to recapture barry the chopper. After three days of vigilance, "Jacqueline" is given the order to strike when barry's reanimated body - sent by the homunculi - arrives on the scene to eliminate number 66. Havoc bursts into action to support falman and barry, dressed in covert ops gear and mask, but (though falman was unaware of havoc's surveillance) the warrant officer recognizes the 2nd lieutenant due to the scent of cigarette smoke on his person. Havoc drives barry's body outside, where hawkeye can offer them sniper support, and joins up with colonel mustang and alphonse elric in pursuing the two barrys to central alchemical laboratory number 3. Jean and roy venture deeper into the hidden reaches of lab 3, which havoc notes as having "The stink of violence", and are confronted by lust, who reveals herself to be a homunculus.

Though lust manages to disrupt roy's primary mode of combat by rupturing a water pipe in the room and dousing his gloves, havoc is able to aid roy by providing a spark from his cigarette lighter after the colonel transmutes the water into combustible hydrogen and flammable oxygen, creating an explosion that incinerates lust's body. But when the two get closer to investigate, lust regenerates and impales havoc through the abdomen with two of her bladed fingers, causing him to collapse and fall unconscious from the blood loss. Roy is able to use fire to sear havoc's wounds closed and staunch the bleeding and, after lust is defeated, the two are brought to a hospital. There, hawkeye and mustang discuss the current situation, what they have learned from the last mission. And how to proceed in uncovering the truth. Havoc then mentions that they will not be able to count on him in the future, as he cannot feel either of his legs. Lust's attack in lab 3 had injured his spinal cord, paralyzing him from the waist down. As it is unlikely that havoc will be able to return to active service with his injury, he decides to accept a discharge from the military and makes plans to live as a civilian, helping out at his parents' general store in the eastern countryside. When roy - feeling responsible for his friend and comrade's plight - hesitates to let havoc give up, jean explodes at him, demanding that the colonel leave him behind and stressing that there is no time to waste pitying a pawn that can no longer move if mustang is to reach the top. Roy begrudgingly complies, but states that he will be forging a path to the top on which he expects havoc to catch up with him. Havoc continues to work out his upper body from his hospital bed using small weights given to him by breda, despite protestations from his worried mother, and declares that he will strive to catch up to the others, even from outside the military. When führer king bradley forcibly disbands mustang's unit, scattering breda, falman, fuery and hawkeye, havoc remains the only member of the team able to move and act freely. He is able to pass on hawkeye's message regarding the promised day to mustang before being transferred to an eastern hospital. In chapter 89, during mustang's attack on central command, 2nd lieutenant rebecca catalina and 2nd lieutenant maria ross arrive as backup in an armored truck disguised as an ice cream truck that is laden with fresh ammunition and sophisticated weapons. When roy asks who ordered them in to help and provided them with such equipment, ross patches him in to jean havoc, who has been running a covert weapons trade under the cover of the havoc general store. In chapter 108, the final chapter, havoc is shown in the photos on the few pages going through physical therapy, so he may have regained some movement in his legs. In the final episode of the second anime, marcoh offers to heal roy's eyes to help him restore ishval, but roy insists that he will use the stone after marcoh uses it to restore havoc's legs.

Pinako rockbell

Dr. Pinako rockbell (pinako rokkuberu) is a surgeon and weapon smith living and working in the town of resembool in the eastern region of amestris. Mixing her two specialties, pinako is also a prominent automail engineer and presumably the founder of rockbell automail, a family-run automail atelier within the town.

Pinako also happens to be the grandmother of winry rockbell as well as the neighbor and close family friend of the elrics - van hohenheim, trisha, edward and alphonse. As winry's only remaining blood relative after the death of her parents, and the closest adult to the elric brothers after their mother's passing and their father's disappearance, pinako acts as caretaker to the three youngsters, training winry in automail engineering and serving as ed and al's home base whenever they return to resembool.

Pinako is an elderly woman with gray hair and dwarf stature. As a young woman, she was tall and very attractive with a curvaceous figure with long brown hair and brown eyes. Pinako is a very skilled doctor, surgeon and automail engineer known throughout amestris as "The leopardess of resembool" as told by dominic who has a past with her.

Alex louis armstrong

Major alex louis armstrong (arekkusu rui āmusutorongu?), also known as the strong arm alchemist (gōwan no renkinjutsushi), is a state alchemist and officer in the amestrian state military. The scion of the illustrious armstrong family, alex is a remarkably caring commander and friend as well as an invaluably skilled ally to colonel roy mustang and edward elric.

Remarkably talented in many fields, alex excels in such eclectic practices as portraiture, tracking, cross-country running and wood-chopping, taking the time after each of these extraordinary feats to remark that his skills have been "Passed down the armstrong line for generations." armstrong is also a highly formidable hand-to-hand combatant, able to fight on equal grounds with such highly skilled and dangerous fighters as the scarred man and the chimera roa. Befitting his large and well-defined physique, armstrong possesses tremendous strength and endurance bordering on superhuman, able to endure with only minor damage blunt force trauma that would render most people unconscious or crippled. His punches are able to easily plow through solid surfaces and his strength is able to nonchalantly move large and heavy objects out of the way. Despite his size, he has been noted to be deceptively fast and agile, able to dodge and maneuver against close-range attacks with surprising balance and efficiency. Armstrong's combat style resembles boxing using strong and swift punches to overwhelm an opponent and agile dodges and swift footwork to evade attacks.

Major alex armstrong utilizes a style of combat alchemy that has apparently been passed down the armstrong line for generations and mixes alchemical skill with physical prowess. With the aid of two metal gauntlets strapped to his fists (both marked with transmutation circles), armstrong transmutes objects mainly by punching them. It is possible that this method transfers the kinetic energy of his blows into the alchemical energy, enhancing the speed and force of his transmutations, since he mainly uses alchemy to rapidly produce large stone spikes, walls or other objects from the earth at a rate among the fastest in the series. Additionally, the armstrong style allows alex to double as a source of heavy artillery, transforming raw stone or brickwork into projectiles which are then launched with the force of his punch. With his alchemy being combined with hand to hand combat, it is notable that alex is the first of the few state alchemists to survive a direct fight with scar. Armstrong's gauntlets both are inscribed with encircled triangles and a trio of runes. Inside the triangle appears to be the hebrew word often associated with "God" (as described by edward elric in chapter 53). Additionally, there is a ring of inscribed text around the outermost circle on each gauntlet. While difficult to make out, the text on the right gauntlet (as shown in chapter 7) reads "Laufet, brüder, eure bahn, freudig, wie ein held zum siegen" while the left gauntlet (whose text is made legible at the end of chapter 58) reads "Froh, wie seine sonnen fliegen durch des himmels prächt’gen plan, laufet, brüder, eure bahn, freudig, wie ein held". In chapter 59, the text on the right gauntlet is shown to be identical to that of the left. It is unclear whether this is a continuity alteration or whether armstrong had the text altered in the years since the ishval civil war (since chapters 58-9 take place during the flashback of volume 15), however the latter seems likely, as in chapter 95 - when the gauntlets are once again shown clearly - depicts them with the shortened text.

Scar

The scarred man (kizu no otoko), known more casually as "Scar" (suka), is a nameless lone serial killer and revolutionary who targets state alchemists for his own brand of lethal justice in accordance with the fundamental tenets of his religion and for the revenge of his slaughtered people and family. An ishvalan survivor of the ishvalan civil war, scar's moniker comes from the large x-shaped scar on his forehead and sports a conspicuous and intricate alchemical tattoo on his right arm, which originally belonged to his older brother, and which he uses as his murder weapon of choice.

Scar is a decidedly brooding and angry man, almost totally consumed by hatred toward the people who destroyed his homeland. Knowing full well that his actions go against many of the teachings of his religion, he still fashions himself an agent of god's divine punishment and takes out his fury on state alchemists. However, vestiges of his former life's kinder nature are prone to seep through. Even in the middle of his bloody vengeance, scar is willing to show compassion toward others, honoring last requests and offering a chance to pray before dying. He is reasonably wise and a skilled rhetorician, though his misguided thirst for vengeance clouds his greater judgment and leads his arguments in circles. Having had his people and his family stolen from him, scar sympathizes with those who care for their loved ones and looks after those who have lost their place in the world. Additionally, he is very protective of his surviving kinsmen and takes all their words of encouragement or chastisement to heart.

As a former warrior of ishbal, scar is quite adept at hand-to-hand combat, boasting significant strength and stamina, remarkable agility and reflexes and deceptive speed. Though the 2003 anime shows him as a young armed combatant during the war, in the manga he displays his abilities on the field by subduing a number of armed amestrian soldiers using only melee tactics. Scar's killing spree throughout amestris itself is proof of his skills, as he manages to murder ten state alchemists (including basque grand, who had been hailed as a combat specialist) and is able to hold his own against combat-based alchemists like the elric brothers and alex armstrong. In addition, scar proves himself capable of taking down inhuman beasts such as chimeras and homunculi. Most impressively, through a combination of luck and skill, he managed to gain a pyrrhic victory over a severely wounded wrath. Scar is also reasonably intelligent, able to comprehend some more complex alchemical texts and concepts despite having never studied the craft and an adequate tactician capable of immediately identifying and assessing his opponents' weaknesses in combat.

Maes hughes

Maes hughes (māsu hyūzu) was an amestrian state military officer stationed in the investigations office in central city and colonel roy mustang's best friend, as well as the closest supporter of mustang's secret bid for the position of führer. A devoted family man and exemplary soldier, hughes was generally well-liked by the other characters (unless he was pushing his love of his wife or daughter on them) and his murder served as the major starting point for the story to unfold.

Tall and lean, maes hughes offsets his sharp military uniform with a thin chinstrap of scruffy beard and his jovially spiky hair ending in a characteristic forelock as well as the rectangular spectacles framed in front of his hazel eyes. Though his hair is black, the 2003 anime gave a green hue to it (coincidentally the same shade as envy), suggesting that it could have been dark green.

Hughes was initially assigned to the Investigations Division in Central. He is more involved with police work than he is in actual battles. He has displayed his skills with his push knives, with very precise aiming and through the use of his reflexes. After receiving his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, Hughes is placed in charge of the Investigations Division. He also a very good deductive skills, noticing the pattern of the locations of major fights to match the points used to make the Transmutation Circle given to him by Edward.
